I founded and direct the small press, Ad Hoc Fiction in 2017 with the purpose of publishing collections, anthologies and guide books on flash fiction. Since then we have published over 80 books which are available to buy from bookshop.adhocfiction.com and many of them also from Amazon in paperback.
Ad Hoc Fiction has been in a regional finalist in the Booksellers Best Small Press of the Year in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. It also won the Best Small Publisher Award in the Creative Bath Awards in 2019.
Several of the books we have published have been shortlisted in the International Rubery Award and
Season of Bright Sorrow, a novella-in-flash by David Swann won The Rubery Award Book of the Year 2023.
Now You See Him, a flash fiction collection by Tim Craig was also longlisted in the prestigious Edge Hill Award. Unlocking the Novella-in-Flash a guidebook on writing in this form, by Michael Loveday, has won or been listed in many awards as has the guide book on writing flash fiction, Going Short by Nancy Stohlman
The latest books published by Ad Hoc Fiction are the three novellas-in-flash, the winners and two runners up from the Bath Flash Fiction Award competition for the novella, pictured here. They were launched at the flash fiction festival in July 2025
